Welcome back!

Hey you!

Some of you all might remember my first English Channel attempt, waaay back in August 2008, but a lot has changed since then. So I instead of trying to wrestle with revamping my old blog (click here to read about my last attempt), I have decided to start fresh.

Armed with more knowledge on how to style a blog, 5 more years of swim training under my belt, a college degree and the always-supportive presence of my family and friends, I will be making my second English Channel attempt in September 2015, and this time I'm ready to grab onto some French rocks this time.

So here are some updates in case you haven't heard from me in awhile (ie since 2008)...

  • I graduated from Berkeley High in 2010, and went on to attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA.
  • At Grinnell, I was privileged to swim for Erin Hurley and Tim Hammond, as a member of the Grinnell Swimming and Diving Team. In addition to working hard and swimming fast, I formed some wonderful friendships and learned a lot about myself as both a swimmer and a college-aged person.

  • In 2012, I got the opportunity to study abroad in Valparaíso, Chile! Which was a wonderful adventure that you can read about on my other blog (I know, right? How many blogs does this girl have? The answer is 4..I had to make one as an assignment for one of my art courses, but I don't think it really counts).
  • In 2014, I graduated from Grinnell with an honors degree in Biology and then spent the summer in Iowa lifeguarding, painting houses and things, working in a greenhouse and going down the red slide at the Grinnell waterpark.

  • Currently I am living in San Francisco, CA and I am doing a year of service with Lutheran Volunteer Corps. The organization that I am placed at is called the SF Day Labor Program and Women's Collective. I've only been working for two weeks, but so far I've been kept busy and been speaking spanish daily.

I know that this is kind of a lot of introductory information not really related to swimming, so congrats to you for reading this far. In future posts, I hope to give you more information about what it means to train for/swim the English Channel, keep you updated on training swims that I have done/will be doing, fundraising needs, and also provide you with information about the organization that I will be raising money for (shhhhhh don't worry, there will be a big reveal soon!).

Some of what is in this post may be repeated in my "about me" section, which might not not allowed by standard conventions, but I'm just going to say my blog my rules. As you can see by the photos above, I once made an art piece that featured the "about me" sections of various blogs, which now makes that art piece sadly ironic.
